Collection

The Lucid Art Foundation is the recipient of the art collection and archives of the late Surrealist painter Gordon Onslow Ford. Onslow Ford was one of the cofounders of the Foundation and a pioneer in exploring the “inner worlds” through painting.  The Lucid Art Foundation continues acquisitions of work related to the vision and mission of the Foundation.

Location The collection is held in various professional off site storage facilities and is not accessible to the public unless it is shown in exhibitions.

Collection Loans The Foundation makes the collection available for loan to museums and galleries for exhibition. To inquire about loaning artwork for an exhibition, contact the Foundation's Director, Fariba Bogzaran, at bogzaran@lucidart.org or 415.669.7585.

The Foundation occasionally curates art shows and online art exhibitions that explore various aspects of the collection. To view the exhibits, visit Museum.

Sale of art works The majority of the art in the collection is not for sale, however, the Foundation periodically sells a very limited number of works to select museums, galleries and private collectors. The Lucid Art Foundation curates visionary exhibitions as well as provides loan of artwork from its collection to select gallery and museum exhibitions. The exhibitions are curated by the Foundation Director, Fariba Bogzaran. Most recently, art from the Foundation's collection has been featured in the following exhibitions:

-Landscapes of Consciousness: A circle of artists at the beginning of Lucid Art.  Exhibition co-sponsored with Weinstein Gallery, San Francisco, California (September-October 2008). This exhibition examined the art of five Lucid Art associates and pioneer painters who explore different realms of consciousness.  Paintings by John Anderson, Richard Bowman, Gordon Onslow Ford, Fritz Rauh and Jack Wright were featured. -Gordon Onslow Ford: From Vallejo 1949-1959. This historical exhibition explored the work of Gordon Onslow Ford from 1950's and his Ferryboat Vallejo moored in Sausalito, California.  The ferryboat was a center of activities with artists, poets and writers contributing to the life of Bay Area in the 50's.  The ferryboat was co-owned with Greek Painter, Jean Varda and architect Forest Wright.  Among the visitors to the ferryboat were: Roberto Matta, Sabro Hasegawa, Henery Miller, Jack Kerouac, Harry Partch, etc. Onslow Ford leaves the ferryboat in 1959 and eventually gift his portion to Alan Watts. -Threshold of a New Art – Artwork of the 1950s: A Selection from the Lucid Art Foundation Collection. Held at the California Institute of Integral Studies, San Francisco, California (February 6 - March 31, 2006). This exhibition examined the influence of Asian philosophy on the work of several artists in the 1950s in the Bay Area whose work is included in the Foundation’s collection. It also examined other historical art exhibits from this period, such as Dynaton. The exhibition featured works by Hodo Tobase, Gordon Onslow Ford, Wolfgang Paalen, Lee Mullican, Ruth Asawa, Richard Bowman, Jean Varda, J.B. Blunk, John Anderson and Roberto Matta. Also on display were writings by Jacqueline Johnson, historical documents of the exhibition Dynaton, and historical photographs of events that surrounded the establishment of the Academy for Asian Studies.
