The publisher Springer/Wien-New York is pleased to announce the re-publication of the journal DYN. DYN was born out of Surrealism, one of the greatest movement of ideas of the 20th century. The journal constitutes a crucial step in thinking about the development of contemporary art and, also, a favoured ground for artistic expression as a dialogue between Europe and the Americas. Wolfgang Paalen (1905-1959), an Austrian expatriate in Mexico, founded this journal devoted to the arts in 1942, DYN, the "possible" in Greek. Paalen secured the collaboration of reknowned artists such as Pablo Picasso, Henri Moore, Marc Chagall, Alexander Calder, Robert Motherwell and Jackson Pollock. DYN published articles by André Breton, Albert Einstein, Octavio Paz, Bertrand Russell, Gordon Onslow Ford and others. Writers Anaïs Nin and Henri Miller, photographers Manuel Alvarez Bravo and Eva Sulzer and ethnologists Alfonso Caso and Miguel Covarrubias also contributed to the journal. Only five issues of DYN were published before the periodical came to an abrupt end in 1944. At the initiative of Christian Kloyber (Editor), the publishing house Springer/Wien-New York has undertaken to reprint the complete series of DYN which, since its disparition, has continued to be an invaluable source of inspiration to a small but influential group of modern artists and thinkers. This facsimile reprint offers exact and accurate reproductions of all five issues of DYN in one single compact volume.

Les Editions Springer/Vienne-New York ont le plaisir d'annoncer la réimpression de la revue DYN. DYN est issue du Surréalisme, l'un des plus grands mouvements d'idées du XXe siècle. La revue constitue à la fois une étape cruciale dans la réflexion sur le développement de l'art contemporain et un lieu privilégié de l'expression artistique comme dialogue entre les Amériques et l'Europe. C'est Wolfgang Paalen (1905-1959), un Autrichien réfugié au Mexique, qui en 1942 fonda cette revue dédiée aux arts, DYN, du grec "possible". Paalen s'assura de la collaboration d'artistes de renom tels que Pablo Picasso, Henri Moore, Marc Chagall, Alexander Calder, Robert Motherwell et Jackson Pollock; elle publia des articles d'André Breton, Albert Einstein, Octavio Paz, Bertrand Russell, Gordon Onslow Ford et d'autres encore. Les écrivains Anaïs Nin et Henri Miller, les photographes Manuel Alvarez Bravo et Eva Sulzer et les ethnologues Alfonso Caso et Miguel Covarrubias apportèrent également leurs contributions. DYN ne parut que cinq fois; sa publication a connu une fin abrupte en 1944. A l'initiative de Christian Kloyber (Rédacteur), les Editions Springer/Vienne-New York ont entrepris de republier la série complète de cette revue qui, depuis sa disparition, a continué d'être une source d'inspiration inestimable pour un groupe restreint quoique unfluent d'artistes et de penseurs modernes. Cette réimpression en fac-similé constitue une reproduction exacte et fidèle en un seul volume de l'ensemble des cinq numéros de la revue DYN.
