Adrienne Defendi is a visual artist whose work integrates photography, printmaking, and pewter casting. She writes: “My interests in memory, materiality, and narrative inform my photographic expression and artistic process.… I chart elements of loss and ritual, and the possibilities within reiteration and experimentation. The ephemeral and the fragility of life permeate my work and continue to evolve in more abstract and conceptual ways through which I explore the potential of transformation. I work with a variety of photographic mediums--from analog film and the hybrid digital and 19th-century processes--and printmaking techniques of collagraphy…. My research and image-making focus on materiality and its relationship to our humanness, what we leave behind and commemorate, and what is generated in the wake of loss.”
Defendi has exhibited nationally, including in California, Texas, Massachusetts, and New York and internationally, including in Hungary, Spain, South Korea, and Japan. Her work is in various collection including the California State Parks, Photomedia Center, Erie, Pennsylvania; CICA Museum, Gimpo-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea; and private collections.
Defendi lives and works in Palo Alto, California.
