Jeanne Simmons is an environmental artist. She writes: “My work is an expression of my profound reverence for the natural world. I am preoccupied by the desire to express my deeply held belief that we humans are an extension of the natural world, and similarly, that the natural world is an extension of us. Women are my agents of expression. I enjoy offering images of women peacefully integrated into natural settings, usually enveloped by foraged natural materials that |have organized in some way. This work helps me address my concerns regarding our fragile rapport with our environment.”
Simmons's artwork has been featured in numerous national and international publications and her work has been shown in France and the US, including Washington and Maine. Her book, Jeanne Simmons: Photographs, Artifacts, and Intimate Works, was published in 2024. She is working with filmmaker Ward Serrill on a film about her work and process.
Simmons lives and works in Port Townsend, Washington.
