Tyrell Collins has had a studio practice for over 25 years and was trained as an oil painter. Her recent works are colored pencil drawings on black paper. The drawings are developed through a slow build-up of repeated, layered lines. She is interested in physics and metaphysics; in waves, particles, matter, light, and space; and the mysteries at the outside edge of these natural phenomena.

About her work, Collins writes: “The coherence of the lines and the creation of the glow develop so gradually that when they appear I am both surprised and relieved. With each drawing I experience a leap of faith. My greatest aspiration is to produce a visual experience that transcends the visual, lines that create a semi-audible hum, work that evokes a sense of the physical energy of the universe and our experience of it.”

Collins’s drawings have been exhibited nationally and won numerous awards. She lives and works in Oakland, California.
