Jacques Garnier is an artist and photographer. He writes of his work: “As a photographer using available light sources only (fog, sunlight, shadows in the studio, natural available light) I want to explore how the emotional responses to the world we live in might be challenged by accentuating the ambiguity and perceptual poetry that resonates in nature. These images will blur the lines of perception, forcing us to eliminate reference points. I have been decluttering my images, deconstructing the obvious by emphasizing the stillness that comes from stripping away the superfluous. Once revealed, a new, unique dialog is created allowing a portal into our own consciousness and a reimagining of our perceptions and our connections to the world. The ephemeralness of fog will hopefully play a large part in this exploration. These visual assimilations will dramatically alter the world and our relationship to it.”
Garnier’s work has been featured in over a hundred national (including California, Louisiana, Washington, D.C., Florida) and international (including China and France) exhibitions. His work is held in numerous museum permanent collections, including: Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego; Laguna Art Museum; Southeast Museum of Photography; and University of California, Irvine Special Collections & Archives.
Garnier lives and works in Southern California.
