Lani Asher is an artist, writer, teacher, and curator. She writes of her work: “My drawings and collages use a personal visual language that I have developed by trial and error. My collages use recycled paper fragments generated by my studio practice that I quilt together loosely structured on grids or rectangles constructed with photographs, paintings, and drawings. They are joined together on the reverse side with rice paper and glue. I build up the delicate surfaces with layers of paint, pencil, and paper, giving the collages a tactile and sculptural dimension. The collages and drawings are never planned, and I sometimes work on several pieces at the same time until they feel complete.”

Asher’s work has been exhibited in the US, including California and New York, and internationally, including in Japan and Mexico.

Asher lives and works in San Francisco, California.
